UM hires law school's first female dean

May 1, 2009

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - The University of Montana has hired an environmental and energy legal scholar as its law school's first female dean.

Irma Russell is a professor for the Energy-Environment Law & Policy Institute at the University of Tulsa College of Law. She was director of the institute from 2006-2008 and is currently a visiting professor at the University of Kansas, her alma mater.

Russell will take over as dean July 1. She replaces E. Edward Eck, who is retiring as dean at the end of the academic year and return to the law faculty.
