TOKYO Some 1,900 law school students submitted a petition to the national bar examination commission on Thursday seeking a higher success rate in the bar exam.

While the Judicial System Reform Council had initially proposed that some 70-80% of law school graduates would be allowed to pass the new bar exam to be launched in 2006, the Justice Ministry said the ratio of successful applicants is expected to be only around 30% in the first exam.
