A professor at Pennsylvania State University's Dickinson School of Law has been named dean of Wayne State University's Law School.
Robert Ackerman, the dean at Willamette University in Salem, Ore., from 1996 to 1999, is to start at WSU this spring.
He replaces the outgoing Frank Wu, a Detroit native who became dean in 2004 after teaching at Howard University School of Law in Washington.
Wu said he is leaving to join his wife, Carol Izumi, a professor at George Washington University Law School in Washington. She has been ill, and the two had maintained residences in Detroit and Washington, with Wu commuting to the capital most weekends.
Wu, who recently was honored by the Asian Pacific Fund for his work, will become a visiting professor at the University of Maryland and George Washington.
